Is Camp Woodward for Adults?

Camp Woodward for AdultsAbout a year ago I started skateboarding again after about 10 years off. When I realized how many skateparks there were around and near Indianapolis, I had to try to pick it back up again as I’ve always loved skateboarding.

I’ve progressed a lot considering I was practically starting from scratch again, and being 35 years old doesn’t make it any easier… But something is still lacking. I’m not progressing as fast as I’d like. That’s when I did more research on Camp Woodward.

Camp Woodward action sports facility is located in the hills of Pennsylvania just east of Station College. It’s the largest action sports camp in the world, and many of all the top pros in skateboarding, inline skating and BMX train there every summer. While all 12 weeks of the camp cater to kids, the final week allows skaters 18 and up to attend.

Is Camp Woodward for Adults? I am soon to find out. I plan to go there the last week of August of 2011 as a camper. I’m 35 years old and I expect to be the oldest skater there.

While skating Woodward has always been a goal or dream of mine (look at these facilities), I thought I had long passed my chance to go. I’m still in good health, fairly decent fitness, and most of my bones and joints have been holding up better than many people in their mid-20’s. I decided to go for it. I’m considering it a once in a lifetime chance to do something I’ve always wanted to. Life changes fast, and who knows what next year would be like. I could be more out of shape or suffer an injury that would prevent me from going.

Of all the sports I do, my skill level and ability is probably the worst when it comes to skateboarding. Yet, it still remains one of my biggest passions in life and favorite things to do despite my miserable failures at even some of the most basic tricks.

Camp Woodward will hopefully help this adult accomplish many of the small goals I have in skateboarding. I’m going to blog about my experiences as an adult at Camp Woodward. I’m sure there are other guys around my age that have been considering it too.

If nothing else, at least I get to take a week off work, skate some of the best ramps in America, and preview Woodward Camp before I have kids of my own to send there one day.
