How to wreck your WordPress Blog in 30 seconds

Yesterday while attempting to make my WordPress admin a little more secure, I deleted my default user on the account.  I really should have thought through the consequences a little more thoroughly before just going through with it, but that wasn’t the case.

The result?
It blew away a number of menus, pages and posts I had been working on for a couple of months now, and completely deleted all the image and media files that user profile had uploaded.  Luckily, I had changed the author to a number of posts over to the new account profile prior to realizing I should attempt to make my site more secure.

How to avoid this problem:
When you first setup your WordPress blog, I recommend creating that new user profile immediately, and logging back in with that one prior to creating much content or making many changes to your site.

I haven’t looked into the details for how to make this change across an established site… Just be aware of the consequences when you delete the default user account when you setup WordPress.

I’m still a little frustrated at myself for this, and have to start over on a number of pages.
